....with Terry's All Gold!

So the jingle went, a number of years ago, accompanied by pictures of a warm golden glow emanating from a chocolate box, illuminating the face of the lucky lady in whose lap they sat.

Yesterday, I tried to go to Sainsbury's but, it being pension day, there was not a parking space to be had, despite requests to the parking angels. I took this as a sign that I was not supposed to be there, and went on to Langney shopping centre. Like bees, at the far end of the Easter Egg section there were numerous old folk becoming increasingly excited. The smiling assistant waited for her shelf-edge sticker to print out and stuck it over the existing label, thus confirming that the £4.99 boxes of All Gold had been reduced to 62p. The ensuing frenzy was a delight to behold, as the old folk scooped up as much chocolate as they could carry. All thoughts of real food seemingly abandoned, one old lady struggled to the till at once, possibly fearing it was a computer error that may soon be noticed and corrected, with half a dozen boxes.

Once the excitement had calmed a little I picked up two boxes, one for the evening Governing Body meeting, and one for the ladies in the school office, who have been very helpful of late and sometimes miss out on the treats left in the main staff area. The cashiers were a little bemused to see the large quantities of treasure making their way down the conveyor belts, and one or two mumbled about never hearing about such bargains when they were stuck to the tills all day. I must admit, it was unlikely that there would be any left at the end of the shift.

For me, it reminded me of the need to be flexible. As irritating as it was to drive away from Sainsburys empty-handed, my trip to Tesco gave me the double boon of cheap chocolate and a good giggle. A few other things didn't go quite to plan and, though I may not yet know the reason, there is one, for such is the way of the world!
