Last night we watched Evan Almighty on DVD.

I enjoyed it; a feel good movie at exactly the right time for me. How many people, confronted by God, or some other celestial representative, would react like the character in the film. Wonder, denial, straightforward refusal to carry out their requests until that final realisation that in all things, it is God's will that matters.

The film also had a strong "conservation" theme, which is close to my heart. Presenting the message through entertainment probably reaches a far wider audience than lecture style prosteletising, and using humour to make the viewer feel good about saving the planet is probably more effective than a sense of obligation or righteousness. I have known some speakers try to terrify or bully others, while laughing your way to doing the right thing is far more fun.

I also valued the use of the word ARK as an acronym. If we all practice regularly the performance of Acts of Random Kindness, what a nice place the world would be.

I did my day in school today, and to see the kindness that happens there is wonderful. When the little ones demonstrate kindness to each other it is a joy to see. If more grown-ups could be as generous and spontaneous as kiddies....another thing to celebrate.
