We've just made a batch of rice crispie cakes: melted Mars bars and golden syrup. Not exactly health food, but these are sweet treats to celebrate the season.
I made a list of everything that needs to be done, and there are a few pressies left to get, and lots of housework! As long as Father Chtistmas exists!
I was in the car this morning discussing the possible ways of interpreting various Bible tales with my 10 year old. The feeding of the 5,000 came up as an example. Did we feel that the loaves and the fishes literally fed that huge crowd? Or that others, inspired by the child who shared his food, shared all that they had? Either way, the universe enabled many to eat that day. After that chat, we went to choose some Christmas presents. Avi, as a reward for her good-behaviour and patience in the shop, was given a wooden penguin by the shop-keeper, who also gave us a packet of incense and a bundle of wrapping paper. Her shop seems to be up for sale; if I had any money, I might be interested in it myself. I used to work in a similar place, and loved it. As a purveyor of the Alternative and Bohemian, the clientele are always interesting!
While writing cards for the neighbours, a friend arrived with a card and a gift, and while we were making our cakes, someone came round with a lovely Christmas pudding, something else that can be knocked off my list of essentials to be done by Monday evening.Of course, the most important thing for the girls to do is to ensure that Santa can see carpet in their room. I hear he's very particular about carpets!
